“Chuck Byrd Investigates the Mister Mino for Catching Freshwater and Saltwater Fish”
Part 3: The Mister Mino Is Deadly in Salt and Fresh Waters
Editor’s Note: Chuck Byrd, president of Mister Twister (a division of Sheldon’s, Inc.) in Minden, Louisiana, is an avid fisherman and recently conducted field tests on the Mister Mino, a new Mister Twister lure. Byrd and other fishermen have had phenomenal results using the Mister Mino. This week, Byrd will tell us how to fish the Mister Mino, and why it was created.
Question: Chuck, when that 2-inch Mister Mino was introduced onto the market, did you start getting a lot of phone calls?
Byrd: Yes, we did.
Question: What did you do next?
Byrd: We really started making the Mister Mino’s appearance as realistic and alive as we could. We wanted the bait to include 3D eyes and different color schemes. We also wanted to develop the 4- and the 6-inch Mister Minos because those hollow bodies would give the bait more action and make it appear more lifelike.
Question: What have you learned about the 4- and the 6-inch Mister Minos once you developed them?
Byrd: We’ve learned that the 4- and the 6-inch Mister Mino can catch a much-wider variety of fish than we anticipated. The 4- and the 6-inch Mister Minos also have set the saltwater fish in the world on fire. We’re getting many reports of speckled trout, redfish and flounder being caught with the Mister Mino. We’ve learned that the 4-inch Mister Mino is producing many walleye and smallmouth and largemouth bass in fresh water. We’ve also learned that the 6-inch Mister Mino has become very hot with the saltwater-striper fishermen as well as the largemouth-bass market, and that many of these fishermen Texas rig the Mister Mino. We’ve caught a lot of fish on the 4- and the 6-inch Mister Minos in both salt water and fresh water.
Question: How is the Mister Mino packaged?
Byrd: The 2-inch Mister Mino is packaged in a clamshell. The 6-inch Mister Mino is available in a six-bait package, and the 4-inch comes in a 12-bait package. For the 6-inch, you can choose from a No. 4/0 or a No. 5/0 hook. I definitely recommend the weighted keeper hooks. For the 4-inch Mister Mino, I suggest a No. 3/0 or a No. 4/0 keeper hook. If you’ll be Texas rigging the hook instead of fishing it on a drop-shot rig, I advise using a No. 2/0 or a No. 3/0 hook. With the 2-inch Mister Mino, you’ll probably want to use a No. 2/0 or a No. 3/0 keeper hook, if you’ll be fishing the drop-shot rig. For the Texas rig, you’ll probably want a No. 1/0 or a No. 2/0 hook.
Question: Chuck, if someone can’t find Mister Mino in his local tackle store, can he visit your website to purchase the Mister Mino?
Byrd: Yes, visit www.mistertwister.com. We’re having a special on the Mister Mino right now.
